FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What iOS version is required?
Contaxs requires iOS 26.0 or later and is available exclusively for iPhone.
How does the Consolidator work?
The Consolidator is a step-by-step wizard that guides you through a full address book cleanup. It automatically creates a safety backup before making any changes, then walks you through reviewing and merging duplicates across all your accounts (iCloud, Google, Outlook). You stay in control at every step — nothing is changed without your confirmation.
How does duplicate detection work?
Contaxs compares phone numbers and email addresses across all your accounts to identify three types of duplicates: contacts that appear more than once in the same account, contacts shared across multiple accounts, and perfect matches. You review every match yourself and use the Custom Merger to choose exactly which fields to keep — the app never merges or deletes anything automatically.
What does the AI Name Fixer do?
The AI Name Fixer uses Apple Intelligence to detect contacts with garbled names, stray emojis, symbols, or formatting issues. It suggests corrected names for your review so you can approve or skip each fix individually. All processing happens on-device using Apple's on-device language model.
How do I back up my contacts?
Open Contaxs and go to the Backup & Restore section. Tap "Create Backup" to save a complete snapshot of your address book to your iCloud Drive as a VCF file. Contaxs also creates an automatic safety backup before every consolidation operation, so you can always recover if something goes wrong.
How do I restore contacts from a backup?
Go to Backup & Restore and select a backup file from your iCloud Drive. The app shows you a preview of exactly what will change before you confirm. You can choose from four restore modes:
- Sync — The smartest option. Updates contacts that changed, adds ones that are missing, and removes contacts that weren't in the backup. Your account ends up matching the backup exactly.
- Insert New — Only adds contacts from the backup that don't already exist. Existing contacts are left untouched.
- Insert — Adds all contacts from the backup without checking for duplicates first.
- Clear and Insert — Deletes all existing contacts in the account, then inserts everything from the backup.
How do I share my contacts?
Select one or more contacts and tap the Share action in the menu. This opens the standard iOS share sheet, so you can send contacts via AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or any other app on your device. You can share a single contact or a batch selection at once.
How do I export my contacts?
Contaxs supports two export formats. Use Backup (VCF) to export selected contacts as a standard vCard file — compatible with iCloud, Google Contacts, Outlook, and most other apps. Use CSV to export a spreadsheet-style file with first name, last name, phone numbers, and emails, useful for importing into CRMs or spreadsheet tools. Both options are available in the action menu when you select contacts.
Can I message or email contacts directly from the app?
Yes. Select one or more contacts and the action menu gives you direct shortcuts to open Mail (composing to all their emails), Messages (SMS to all their numbers), WhatsApp, or Telegram. For WhatsApp and Telegram, you can pick which phone number to use when a contact has more than one.
Is my contact data sent to any servers?
No. Contaxs processes everything locally on your device. Your contacts are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party service. Backups are saved directly to your own iCloud Drive under your Apple ID — Elysoft has no access to them.
